Could this be the last illegal 4.20? Its been 50 years since a group of high school students used 420 as code for smoking cannabis. 420 refers to the highly punctual time of 4:20 pm when these students would meet up to smoke. Since then, April 20th has grown into an alternative U.S holiday. But the hippy holiday has grown up. On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer Tuesday repeated his demand to legalize marijuana at the federal level. Schumer would like to see the decriminalization of "weed" by next year.

“Hopefully, the next time this unofficial holiday, 4/20, rolls around, our country will have made progress in addressing the massive overcriminalization of marijuana in a meaningful and comprehensive way,” said Schumer. While President Biden has not been the champion many had hoped in backing federal legalizations, supporting decriminalization, he has not stood in its way.

In a significant move, the U.S House of Representatives passed legislation to allow banks to work with cannabis companies. SAFE Banking Act, which would protect financial institutions serving cannabis-focused businesses. The legislation now sits in the Senate. This bill continues the U.S trend towards unrestrained commercialization of cannabis.

90% of U.S adults believe some form of cannabis usage ( medical and/or recreational) should be legalized.

Next year millions of Americans could celebrate 420… legally.
