How can I open a trading account with Swissquote?

We are glad to say you can request an account via our website, giving information online to register for the service you want. We check the registration and then send you the account opening documents.

If you then would like to open the account, you can send us the signed documents including a notarized copy of your passport and proof of address by post to the following address:

Alongside the postal option, you can also complete the account opening directly online. This means you can sign the contract online with confirmation. You can confirm your identity via video conferencing or by uploading a copy of your passport. If you choose to upload a copy of your ID, you must use a Swiss bank account for the first transaction of your new Swissquote account.

After giving your personal data to register for a new account on the website, you will receive guidelines about digital account opening and the required documents.

I cannot log in to my trading account. What do I do now?

Please contact the Customer Care Center by telephone for login problems. For security reasons, telephone authentication is needed.

How do I get my tax statement?

If you want a detailed tax statement for CHF 100 (excluding VAT and delivery charges abroad), you can order this online from 1 January of the following year using «Notifications > Order tax statement» in your account.

An earnings report (KPMG statement) for foreign tax authorities (e.g. under German tax law) can be ordered by telephone. Charges on request.

I would like to transfer securities to my account; how do I go about this?

Please complete the Transfer order form that can be found on our website and send it to the bank where staff will organize the transfer.

General questions

I cannot log in to my trading account. What do I do now?

Please contact the Customer Care Center by telephone for login problems. For security reasons, telephone authentication is needed.

Where can I get a copy of my passport certified?

If you are in Switzerland, you can have your passport/ID card/driving license notarized free of charge at any post office or SBB ticket office using Swissquote vouchers (which we are happy to send on request). We are also happy to provide notarized passport copies in the Swissquote lounge in Berne, Gland or Zurich. So please do visit us at our locations.

If you live in the EU, you can get your passport certified at your local authority or consulate or by a notary public or solicitor/lawyer.

If you live outside Europe, you can get a copy of your passport certified at a consulate or by a notary public or solicitor/lawyer.

Please note that the following elements must be available on the notarized copy of your passport:

  • Note «Copy conforms to the original»
  • Date and place
  • First name, surname and signature of the person issuing the notarization
  • Stamp of the institution
Why do I need proof of address to register for an account?

In certain cases, we require proof of residence, showing your exact address. Gas, water, electricity or fixed-line telephone bills (no older than six months) are accepted. Please note that we can only accept the document in German, French, English or Italian.

Where can I find my tax number?

The Swiss tax identification number (TIN) for natural persons is the AHV insurance number. Foreign residents can find the TIN in their tax documents.

How can I get power of attorney for the account?

To issue power of attorney, please fill in the special form.

Please send this power of attorney form (completed and signed) together with a simple passport copy for the person receiving power of attorney by post to the following address:

Is it possible to open a joint account?

To open a joint account, we require a signed contract for joint account opening.

What investor protection does Swissquote provide?

Swissquote Bank Ltd holds a banking licence and is therefore subject to the supervision of FINMA (the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority). Swissquote Bank Ltd is a member of the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) and a signatory of the Depositor Protection Agreement. This agreement provides each bank creditor (Depositor) with immediate protection of up to an equivalent of CHF 100,000 for cash savings should a bank become insolvent. Should Swissquote Bank Ltd become insolvent, securities are fully guaranteed if they are held by the respective custodians in your name.

Bank transfers / payments

How do I transfer money to my Swissquote account?

You can transfer money to your Swissquote account via Interbank (online banking, instruction to the bank) or ISR (inpayment slip with reference number) at the Post Office (Switzerland only) or via online banking. More details can be found here.

Is it possible to withdraw cash from my account or pay cash into it?

Cash business is generally not possible. For exceptional cases, please contact our Customer Care Center.

My transfer has not been credited to my account. What can I do?

If the transfer has already been debited from the account at the bank/post office executing the order, please call our Customer Care Center during opening hours so that we can check the transfer you have made.

Are my deposits covered by the deposit insurance scheme?

Yes, like any bank or securities dealer in Switzerland, Swissquote Bank Ltd is required to sign the Agreement by Swiss Banks and Securities Dealers on Deposit Insurance and as such is a member of esisuisse. Client deposits held with Swiss branches of the bank are protected for up to CHF 100,000 per client, per bank. Deposits also include medium-term notes held in the name of the depositor at the issuing bank. All relevant information on the deposit insurance can be found at www.esisuisse.ch.

It should be noted that deposited securities do not fall within the scope of bankruptcy and the customer has the right to recover them whenever he or she wishes.

Depositor protection applies irrespective of whether the depositor is resident in Switzerland or abroad.

Securities transfers – incoming and outgoing

I would like to transfer securities to my account; how do I go about this?

Please complete the form Transfer order form that can be found on our website and send it to the bank where staff will organize the transfer.

I would like to transfer securities from my account; how do I go about this?

Please complete the form Debit Securities account, which you will find under the section Services, Useful Information, Forms, Security transfer and send it to us.

I have transferred securities but my deposit does not show an incoming entry. What can I do?

The best thing to do is to call our Customer Care Center during opening hours, so that we can check the security transfer you have made.

Account management

Premium Service: where can I find my access data?

The access data for your Premium Service can be found after logging in under My Profile > Services> Premium.

The premium service is automatically integrated into your bank login. If you log in to the premium service only, you can access your personal lists (personal page, favorites etc.) and the various tools available without accessing your account/custody account. This service can be used as a demo version and also enables you to track and analyze price data, for example if you log in at a different computer and do not want your account/custody account to be shown.

Account statements: where do I find the year-end statement?

After logging in, you will find the account statements as well as the year-end statement under «Notification>Mailbox». Please note that the year-end statement is normally available from the middle of January.

Death of the account holder; what needs to be done?

In such an event, please telephone us so that we can discuss the procedure to be followed.

Change of name; what do I have to do?

When you change your name, please send us a copy of your new identification document/passport in your new name as well as the certificate for the change of name (marriage certificate/divorce certificate). One of these documents has to be certified.

Change of address – what needs to be done?

For security reasons, we cannot accept changes of address via our contact form. Please call our Customer Care Center or make the change directly in the account under «My Profile».

Where can I find my notifications?

You can access your notifications when you register under «Login Bank».

In the top-right, you will then see the «Notifications» menu item.

If you use the eTrading platform, you can find all notifications under «My Account».

Your IBAN is in your account overview.

How can I close my account?

If you want to close your account, please send us a signed letter requesting account closure to the following address:

Please note the bank address, account and securities account number on the communication if assets need to be transferred.

You can also transfer the assets and leave the account open. If you no longer have any securities in custody, we continue to manage your account free of charge. You can also use the account actively again at a later point in time.

On which stock exchanges can I trade?

With a Swissquote account, you can trade in real time all over the world: SIX Swiss Exchange, North America (USA and Canada), USA: CME and ISE, Europe (GB, Germany, Austria, Italy, Scandinavia), Euronext, Eurex, Forex, Euwax.

Which products can I trade?

You can trade the following products with Swissquote:
Equities, warrants and derivatives, options and futures, funds, ETFs, bonds, currencies, news, forex, commodities and share indices.

How can I place orders on the stock exchange?

What do I have to do in case of corporate actions?

The corporate action notification from the company in which you own shares is available in the account overview under «Corporate Actions». This gives you the opportunity to submit your response to the capital measures online.

You can find the necessary information on potential decisions that a company can take regarding its capital (capital increases, capital decreases, splits, spin-offs, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs etc.) here.

Where can I find further information on the market data?

On our website you can find a table that shows the real-time availability and delays for the stock market data in our public and premium services.

How are margins calculated at Swissquote?

The margin requirements for options and/or futures contracts correspond to payment of a guarantee. This payment is blocked in your Buying Power to cover the premium margin. The premium margin represents the repurchase premium for options and/or futures contracts plus the additional margin to cover, in a worst-case scenario, potential losses the following day. Can I also place my stock exchange orders by telephone?

Stock exchange orders can be placed from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 10:00pm by calling 0848 25 88 88. Detailed fees can be found here.

What are flat fee trades and what are their advantages?

As a client, you can buy Flat Fee Trades and benefit from fixed prices. You simply choose the maturity/number of transactions that meet your needs exactly. You decide the number of transactions that you would like to carry out over a time period of 3 to 12 months. The more trades you choose, the lower the fee. Flat-fee trades are bought for a specific time period, so the entitlement to a flat rate lapses on expiration.

Secure data transfer: is data encoded at Swissquote?

The security of our clients' data is of utmost importance to us. We do everything in our power to make Internet trading as secure as possible. Our security system uses the most up-to-date encoding technology available. You can find out more about this topic here.

My password does not work: what can I do?

Please try logging in again, making sure that you enter upper and lower case letters accurately.
Please also check that your browser settings are right. If your password still does not work, please contact our Customer Care Center.

The trading tools don’t work: what can I do?

Further information on our tools is available on our website. If the problems persist, you can of course contact our Customer Care Center at any time.

Mobile

How do I access my bank account via the Swissquote app?

Download the Swissquote app on the App Store or Google Play, agree to the terms & conditions then just log into your account.

What do I do if I lose my mobile?

Log in to the Swissquote website, change your password and deactivate the «Mobile trading» contract. You can also block access to your account for a specific mobile.

Where can I ask a question or make a comment?

You can use the contact form, which can be found in each of our apps, or submit your question or comment directly on the Swissquote website. You can also call our Customer Care Center on 0848 25 88 88.

Which markets can I place trades on?

Our mobile apps for Android and iOS enable you to trade directly on most markets. However, on some markets, technical constraints mean that the mobile apps will redirect you to the Swissquote website. Currently, you may access directly on SIX, US, Swiss DOTS and Options & Futures.

How do I access eForex from my mobile apps?

Swissquote provides specific eForex apps for App Store and Android operating systems.

How do I access my Robo-Advisory account??

Swissquote offers a specific iPad and iPhone app. This app can only be used to consult your positions and strategy, not to conduct transactions on your account.

Is it possible to access my dynamic savings account from mobile apps?

No this is not possible at present.

How can I access my personal pages?

Simply log in using your bank account or premium account to access your personal pages.

How do I refresh a quotation?

Each screen has a «Refresh» button, or a function that enables you to refresh the page by sliding your finger down the screen. If you are logged in to your bank account or premium account, quotes are updated automatically.

How is my password stored on mobile phones?

If you choose to save your username and password, they will first be stored using a key specific to each device, and then in the Keychain, a storage area secured by Apple. The process is similar on Android, with the Keystore.

How do I delete a security from a list?

In iOS, you need to «swipe right», i.e. slide your finger all the way along the cell from left to right. In Android, press and hold a security for a moment and you will be given the option of deleting it. Only your «Favorites» list and your personal pages can be altered.

Where can I download the trading app?

The trading app is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android and can be downloaded from the respective stores.

Can I save my Level 3 card in the app?

Currently, you are asked for your Level-3 card just once. Your device is then authorized to access your account, and you can place orders without needing your Level-3 card again.

With the Mobile Level-3 functionality, you can use your phone as a Level-3 card. When you perform authentication on a web browser, you then receive a Push notification on your mobile app as confirmation. Simple, fast, effective.

For security reasons, you are advised not to take a photo of your Level-3 card.
